If You Play Internet Poker Online, Then You Will Avoid Any Potential Lottery Scams

It would amaze the general public just to how much money is actually stolen from susceptible people every year through these clever lottery cons. Most would be extremely surprised that so many people are still falling victim to a scam that has been around and well publicised now for a decade. The scams have absolutely nothing to do with the actual lottery or any valid lottery around the world. The exact figures of how many people have been scammed in this way is unknown, as a lot of them are too ashamed to admit they have been made fools of.

The scam is well known to many people and the recipient will be informed via either email or letter that they have won a huge amount in a lottery. They are very devious though as they usually ask for the notification to be kept absolutely confidential. The ‘winner’ will be asked to contact a claims agent who will confirm the win to them and it will all seem like they really have won a massive prize. It is at this point that the agent will then ask for some money to be sent to cover processing the win and bank transfer fees. You do have to have your wits about you as some of these bogus scams will have a valid lottery title.

There are ways to easily spot one of these lottery scams and you can follow some simple rules.

•    If you haven’t bought a ticket then you will not have won! There are no such things as free draws where no tickets have been sold.

•   A legitimate lottery would never ask for any sort of payment in order to action your winning claim. The law is very strict and it is illegal for a true lottery company to charge a fee to receive winnings. Please remember that if they are asking you for any sort of money they are not legitimate.

•    Check the email address of the sender. You can be assured that if it comes in through a free email account such as gmail or hotmail then it is a definite scam.

In the not too distant future, the British Government are planning to launch an awareness campaign which will hopefully highlight that such scams are bogus and should not under any circumstances be entertained. Plans are underway to introduce new ’scambuster’ teams to assist people who have fallen foul of the lottery swindlers.
